Dr. Monica Hinton, DSocSci, MSW, RCSW

Dr. Hinton is a clinical social worker registered with the OCSWSSW, ACSW & BCCSW governing bodies in Ontario, Alberta & British Columbia respectively. She earned her doctorate from Royal Roads University and her research focus was facilitators to accessing mental health care by serving Canadian military members. Dr. Hinton graduated from the University of Calgary with a Master of Social Work and her clinical research at the Child Abuse Service at the Children’s Hospital in Calgary focussed on resilience despite childhood trauma. Her work as an eating disorder specialist with Alberta Mental Health and therapist with National Defence Mental Health preceded her full-time private practice work.

Dr. Hinton’s approach is collaborative, humanist, experiential and strengths based. Over the past 15 years, she has specialized in working with individuals and couples who have experienced various types of traumas, those diagnosed with eating disorders and people struggling with depression, anxiety, and addiction. Dr. Hinton has also worked with serving and retired Canadian Armed Forces personnel, police, fire, and paramedic first responders for the past 10 years. Her trauma informed focus includes the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR and Cognitive Processing Therapy with individuals and couples.
